Log Canoe Races - Miles River Yacht Club Centennial Series

The first race weekend of the season, starting off with the Miles River Yacht Club Centennial Series!
A historic tradition, these iconic boats have been racing the Chesapeake Bay for over a hundred years. Originally used as workboats for oystering, larger sails were added over time to increase speed, as the first watermen back to the dock were paid the highest price for their catch of the day. The first races were originally held in 1840, and were revived in 1920 with the establishment of the Miles River Yacht Club - known today as the "home of the log canoes".
